Dog How to Draw
Step 1: Let’s draw the basic shapes and lines, applying gentle pressure on the pencil. Start with a large circle for the head and then draw a narrow oval beneath. Trace the proportions of the dog’s face with three lines: the vertical line inclines to the left and two other lines go up on the right and lightly curve downward in the middle.
Step 2: Mark the legs with angular lines. The smallest leg is the background hind leg. Notice that it ends just a little bit higher than the other hind leg.
Step 3: Outline the head and the neck with one toothed line. Always mind the direction in which the fur grows. The neck is like a furry scarf. The head is inclined to the left a bit, so on the left the line of the neck starts lower. The right part of the neck does not reach the basic oval.
Step 4: Now we start drawing the contours, pressing on the pencil normally. Outline the chest and draw the hind leg. The left contour of the leg curves lower than the right contour. The line of the back follows the basic oval and goes up to the neck. Draw four oval toes: the central two are the longest, and the left toe is visible only in half.
Step 5: The contours of the forelegs are all curved to the right. The toes on the left leg are long, and the left contour of the leg hides behind them. The right foreleg stands out and is the closest to us therefore its toes are the largest.
Step 6: Draw large triangular ears. Their outer contours are curved outward. The right ear is a bit bigger because it is closer to us. And don’t forget about the fur.
Step 7: Draw a long fuzzy tail. Remember that you should mind the direction of the fur. Outline the background leg.
Step 8: Now, that the position of the body is determined, let’s draw the dog’s face. Draw two oval eyes between the basic lines and a massive nose below the horizontal lines. Draw a mouth with a tongue in the middle. The mouth is almost square in shape.
Step 9: Just a few details to add: two fuzzy brows, a collar and some claws. Erase all the basic shapes and lines before coloring.
Step 10: And now for the most fun part — let’s color the picture! Our dog is brownish-gray and wears a red collar. And yours? Trace over the contours again if they got blurred after coloring. The dog is complete!
